• PITCHFORK RAVE REVIEW FOR Musée Mécanique

    January 22nd, 2009

Portland, Ore., is lousy with folk acts, but Musée Mécanique distinguish themselves from the throng by ignoring Americana influences and infusing their brand of intimate melancholia with lush arrangements and electronic underpinnings. While they may not sound like other bands in their local scene, Micah Rabwin and Sean Ogilvie’s collective is clearly an integral part of it. Witness their delicate, affecting debut, Hold This Ghost, which features contributions from fine hometown musicians like Laura Gibson and Norfolk & Western’s Rachel Blumberg. “an impressionistic work of art… infinitely more interesting than standard-issue indie rock.” – Portland Tribune

“Some songs are so moving, so imagistic, that they beg to be put in films. Such is the case with almost every tune on Hold This Ghost, the stirring debut from Portland, Oregon’s Musée Mécanique.” – Soundcheck Magazine

“A smooth puree of the epically sweeping soundscapes of Pink Floyd and the catchier acid-indie sensibilities of the Flaming Lips.”– LA City Beat

    “Dreamlike” –VENUSzine

“Few recent releases approach the textural and musically detailed devotion of Musée Mécanique’s debut long-player, Hold This Ghost…masterfully assembled like a musical ship-in-a-bottle via thrift store instruments, castaway equipment, and just about anything else the band could get their hands on.” – Portland Mercury

“Like the French duo Air, Musée Mécanique creates far-reaching songs out of a host of disparate instruments” – Willamette Week

“An artisanal blend of electronica and old-time instruments, with a whiff of hurdy-gurdy” – 7×7 Magazine, 7 Things To Know Right Now

    Message from Musée Mécanique

    October 31st, 2008

As Musée Mécanique continues to tour the country, they dropped us a line about their travels so far for you, dear listener!

There are only a handful of West Coast shows left before they settle back into Portland for a winter break. See you at the shows!

    ——

    Dear Listeners,

We’re very grateful to have had some of the best times of our lives playing music over the last few weeks, sharing stages and homes with very talented, generous, and inspiring folks.

We’ve seen Niagra Falls, ancient Pueblos, eaten Texas BBQ, perfected our BB gun aim, roller skated in Missouri, lit off fireworks in Cape Cod, slept on countless floors and met literally hundreds of incredible people.

From here in Taos, New Mexico we head to Santa Fe tonight and then westward to Arizona, California and then home.  The following is a list of our remaining shows.  If you can make it out, please be sure and say “hello.”

Thanks to everyone who has come out to see us in the past month and we look forward to seeing the rest of you soon as we wrap up.

    Glad tidings,
    Musée Mécanique

MUSÉE MÉCANIQUE CD RELEASE PARTY, THURSDAY IN PORTLAND

    September 22nd, 2008

Thursday, September 25th, Musée Mécanique will be celebrating the release of their acclaimed debut, Hold This Ghost along with White Hinterland and The Old Believers at Holocene. Here’s what critics have been saying lately:

“As evinced on their debut disc, “Hold This Ghost,”Micah Rabwin, Sean Ogilvie and their ever-evolving band are capable of evoking wistful romances and small moments of anguish with wise instrumentation and an astute restraint that give their songs a haunting quility.” -The Oregonian

“Using a canon of instruments — archaic but not quite obsolete — the band sonically captures a fascination with the past in the midst of an uncertain future.” -Venus Zine

“…a solid album evoking witching-hour creeping through abandoned fairgrounds” LA City Weekly

The show Thursday will double as a tour send-off, as the band sets sail for a vast US tour! Check their show dates to see when they’ll be near you.
